Our Services
What do we offer?
As you may have read on the introductory page, SafeTick is a third party verifier, when you are verified by us you may display our logo which tells consumers that you are a trusted website. This means that if your site is new or small you can reassure customers without having to spend a fortune on advertising.
What you have to do
Verification by SafeTick is about showing that you are a trustworthy company, there are several things we require of you in order to be able to tell customers that you are trustworthy.
Privacy Policy
Firstly, you must write a privacy policy and display a prominent link to the privacy policy on your front page. The privacy policy must cover what information you gather on visitors which is specific to them. For example, information about how many times a user has accessed the site, whether thy are identified by IP address or user login must be documented; however, aggregate information such as the total number of visitors need not be described.
Publishing a privacy policy reassures customers that you are not going to do anything malicious with their data. Privacy is becoming a big issue and many consumers will express concern about giving information to a small site as they are not sure what will be done with the information.
Contact Email
You must have a valid contact email address which works at all times. This may sound trivial but it is one thing which can distinguish a trustworthy site from a phishing site. You must also respond promptly to this email address, within at least 24 hours not including weekends and holidays. This will be checked once a week, an email will be sent to this address and you must reply within 24 hours or your SafeTick membership will be suspended.
SSL Encryption
If you are processing card payments then you must have a minimum 128 bit SSL encryption verified by a respected third party i.e your certificate cannot be self signed.
Site Scripting Standards
Your website will be regularly checked to ensure that it is not vulnerable to common threats such as XSS attacks. This means that visitors know that their information will be safe with you because attackers will have no way in.
Site Design Guidelines
Your site should conform to the Site Design Guidelines on this website. These are not stringent and are mainly to do with aspects of websites which annoy people, conforming to these guidelines is to your benefit as well as your visitors benefit. For example, one of the guidelines states that you should not open a new window or pop up box without telling the user. Another guideline governs the accessibility of the site, for example, all forms must have properly configured <label> elements.
Stay up to Date
When you are verified to show the SafeTick logo you commit to keeping your site up to date. This does not mean constantly updating it but you should at least display the date when the page was last updated on every page of you site. The front page should display the date the site was last updated.
